Six Clips from ‘The Runaways’

— by ALEXA MILAN —

One of the movies that that everyone seems to be talking about is “The Runaways,” a biopic of the 1970s teen rock band that launched the career of Joan Jett.

The film follows the rise of The Runaways as the girls tour throughout the United States and garner a huge following in Japan.

Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and the other girls in the band come of age amid the temptations of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, marketed along the way as “jailbait rock” by their manipulative manager, Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon).

Music video director Floria Sigismondi should capture the 1970s rock atmosphere nicely, and the gritty material should give Stewart the chance to show she can do more than the melodrama of “Twilight” and Fanning the chance to rise above her child star status.

“The Runaways” rocks its way to theaters March 19.
