The Animated Prologue to ‘Priest’

— by ADAM POYNTER —

“Priest” is preparing for its May 13 release in IMAX 3D and traditional 2D. Based on a Korean comic book and directed by Scott Stewart, “Priest” has a cast that will attract all different age ranges and genre lovers.

“Priest” stars Paul Bettany as a dedicated priest who defies the church and leaves the city to track down his missing niece, played by Lily Collins. Maggie Q is Priestess, a female warrior sent by the church to track down Priest after he defects from the priesthood. Cam Gigandet is Hicks, a sheriff in the outlands who joins Priest on his journey. Karl Urban plays the infamous Black Hat, a man behind the scenes that has a deep connection to Priest. The movie also stars Stephen Moyer, Christopher Plummer and Brad Dourif.

Screen Gems has released a short animated prologue by Genndy Tartakovsky (with an introduction by Maggie Q). We get to see the story of how the warriors called Priests came into being and how we will once again need their services.

At the end of this animated short, we see a quick montage of some of the action that was seen in the previously-released trailer (see the entire trailer HERE).

Did the explanation in this short animated prologue help you understand the storyline more or did it do nothing for you? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

“Priest” — rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action, and brief strong language — opens in theaters May 13.
