One could easily debate the use of well-known actors vs. the top voice-work actors and which is better for the quality of an animated movie. However, one cannot debate which is better for marketing purposes.
From the first five minutes of “Megamind,” it looks like a play on the Superman/Lex Luthor dynamic … if Superman was more arrogant, Luthor was a blue alien with confidence issues and both were a whole lot dopier.. According to the official synopsis, the movie’s plot is as follows: The super-villain Megamind finally conquers his nemesis, the hero Metro Man… but finds his life pointless without a hero to fight.
Sounds like fun, but it doesn’t sound like a “must see.” However, the list of voice actors — which includes Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, Tina Fey and David Cross — suddenly gives the movie much more of a marketing hook. As an example, what (or who) do you think the studio is selling the poster we have included at right?
In any case, based on the first five minutes — which you can see below — “Megamind” looks quite entertaining.
“Megamind” is due to hit theaters Nov. 5.
