The Thenatar Chase From ‘Avatar’

— by ALEXA MILAN —

James Cameron’s “Avatar,” the director’s first film since “Titanic,” has garnered a mixed reaction based on early footage.

Some think it’s visually stunning and lives up to the hype, while others don’t think the world of the film is as photorealistic as Cameron promised. Whatever your feelings about “Avatar,” it’s bound to be one of the most talked about films of the holiday season.

Plot details are scarce, but the story centers on Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), who is sent to the planet of Pandora to found a settlement for humans. He is sent to the planet in an avatar, which allows his mind to be present inside the body of Pandora’s indigenous people, the Na’vi. But as the humans find themselves in a battle with the Na’vi, and as Jake grows closer to Na’vi woman Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), Jake is forced to choose which side is worth fighting for.

I’m going to see this movie out of curiosity’s sake if nothing else, if only to see what Cameron has spent the past 12 years of his life developing. While the storyline may not be the most original, I think the visuals have the potential to be truly stunning. I’m not going to judge it until I see it in IMAX 3D as it’s meant to be seen. I’m incredibly intrigued by this film, and I can’t wait to see what Cameron does with it.

“Avatar” opens Dec. 18.

In this clip, Jake, in his avatar body, runs from a Pandoran creature called the Thenatar.
