Already getting accolades at the Sundance and Toronto Film Festivals and starring two of the most talented young actors working today, “Blue Valentine” tells the story of a couple, Cindy (Michelle Williams) and Dean (Ryan Gosling), who are trying to save their failing marriage. The movie cuts through different time periods in their relationship, a storytelling technique I’ve always personally found to be interesting.
And if the film is as beautiful and intriguing as the trailer, “Blue Valentine” is set to woo audiences. Starting off with what I’m guessing is an early scene from their relationship, Dean and Cindy talk about hidden talents in front of a dress shop. Cindy awkwardly dances while Dean sings the pop standard “You Always Hurt the One You Love.” His singing continues through flashes of other scenes from the movie and from their relationship, which include both happy and trying times.
“Blue Valentine” will be in theaters in a limited release starting Dec. 31.
