Trailer Talk: ‘Margin Call’

— by CHERRY BELL DAMASCO-FARRINGTON —

Set in the Wall Street of 2008, the trailer for “Margin Call” takes us through the first 12 hours of the beginnings of the U.S. financial crisis. The film stars Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley (The CW’s “Gossip Girl”), Demi Moore, Paul Bettany (“Priest”), Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto (“Star Trek” and “Heroes”) and Simon Baker (“The Mentalist”), who are the main executives at this Wall Street company.

Within a 12-hour span, we see what leads to a decision that will change the course of U.S. history.

It is a peak into the world that could possibly have happened, but witnesses more than likely will not attest to the veracity of this story line. On the other hand, I would like to see how the plot develops and watch Jeremy Irons say the following line:

There are only three ways to make a living in this business. Be first. Be smarter. Or cheat.

The trailer truly did hook me from the first few seconds and left me wondering what the ultimate decision was that the company made? Did that decision really give us our current economic distress? It left me wanting more of the story. The independent Wall Street drama is produced by Zachary Quinto’s Before The Door Pictures with his partners, Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa. It is set for release in Fall 2011 with an unset date. We’ll keep you posted on the release date, though, because this is one that I would like to see.
