In a recent Trailer Talk for the CGI-film “Mars Needs Moms,” I wrote about how animated films just ain’t what they used to be when it comes to adult enjoyment. And although after watching the trailer for “Rio” I’m still not interested in seeing the film, I would much, much rather watch it than “Mars Needs Moms.”
Even if “Rio” doesn’t have that adult humor I enjoy in animated films, it still looks cute and amusing. Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg — a great choice for this character, I think) is a rare macaw who believes he is the last of his kind. When others find this out, Blu gets stolen from his owner, Linda (Leslie Mann). However, he manages to escape with the help of, to his surprise, another macaw named Jewel (Anne Hathaway). The two decide to fly to Rio, and the pair could not be more different. Outside of his cage in Minnesota, Blu is domesticated and not the best flyer, while Jewel is independent and adventurous.
During their journey, Blu and Jewel meet up with other animals, voiced by actors such as George Lopez, Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”), Tracy Morgan, Jamie Foxx and will.i.am.
Love the animation and the cute characters in the trailer? Book your flight to “Rio” for April 8, 2011.
