So, I know what you’re thinking: “Another planet of the ape’s movie remake?” Is that really necessary? Charlton Heston has no equal; I mean, didn’t we already go through this with Mark Wahlberg’s version?
But once you see the trailer below, you’ll understand why this isn’t your father’s (or even your older brother’s) “Planet of the Apes.” The concept here is still basically true to the original: “Get ready to be taught a lesson, human race. You are definitely no longer at the top of the food chain.”
But it’s the execution that will make this one a stand-out in my opinion. James Franco stars as a scientist, named Will, whose intentions are, as always, good. But he is perhaps not as forward thinking as he should be and his experiments fora way to cure Alzheimer’s disease results in the rapid evolution of an ape test subject named Caesar (Andy Serkis).
The experiment is, of course, a success, but the giant leap isn’t so much for mankind as it is for “ape-kind.” And here is when the fun begins, with great special effects thanks to Weta Digital [“Avatar,” anyone!] we get an eerily real ape; yep, it looks like we’re about to see just how the Apes took over the planet in this new installment. So let’s get ready for the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”
Here is the movie’s official description:
- “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt, the prequel/reboot — which also stars Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, Tyler Labine and Brian Cox — opens on Aug. 5.
So, what do you think about this amazing and exciting trailer?

Thank you, for posting this Jessica! I have been waiting for them to release a trailer, and finally they have. My only concern on this, is that they are released into a city. Name ONE good sequel creature-type-of-film, that has been good! I have been looking forward to this film though, for some time now (I am a fan of the original). So I am very much hoping, it is good.
the end little scene in this trailer is very king kong-esque…I am looking forward to this however, as a huge fan of the originals!
Very interesting!
I am impressed! I love Mark Walberg, but, Planet of the Apes was terrible. lol So, this is a pleasanr surprise! Wow, now I am excited for more…
The originals were classics, the Mark Walberg one sucked, but this trailer makes it look amazing, I cant wait. WETA is the best special FX’s that there is.
