Trailer Talk: ‘Something Borrowed’

— by ALEXA MILAN —

Girl falls for guy. Guy falls for girl’s best friend. Girl just sits on the sidelines and lets it all happen? Not so fast, at least not for the protagonist of “Something Borrowed.”

Based on the novel by Emily Griffin, “Something Borrowed” follows New York attorney Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) as she loses the guy she loves to her best friend and reconnects with him in a less-than-desirable way. Rachel has always been the good girl, and she’s been crazy about Dex (Colin Egglesfield) since they met in law school. But Dex falls for Rachel’s best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson), and six years later, they’re engaged.

Being Maid of Honor isn’t easy for Rachel when she never got over the groom. And after drinking a little too much on her 30th birthday, Rachel winds up in bed with Dex, forcing her to choose between love and friendship.

I won’t lie. As much as I’m in to critical favorites, I love a good chick flick every now and then, something light and fun. But I’m not sure about this one. It has a very likable cast, but it’s hard to tell from the trailer if it will be a sweet story of love and friendship or if the whole affair-with-the-best-friend’s-fiance storyline will be too cringe-inducing.

The one thing I will give it though, having not read the book, I can’t predict who’s going to end up with who. Rom-com cliche dictates that Dex will ditch ungrateful Darcy for good girl Rachel. But if the story is really more about the friendship between Rachel and Darcy, Rachel may realize her friendship is more important and let Dex go. And someone’s got to end up with the always charming John Krasinski, right?

“Something Borrowed” hits theaters May 6. Check out the trailer below.

OK, is it just me or does this look almost exactly like “Bride Wars”, which coincidently also starred Kate Hudson?

That’s what I’m afraid of! I’m tempted to see it because I love John Krasinski, but “Bride Wars” was just awful.
