Being a big fan of “The Office,” I have a special place in my heart for Rainn Wilson, so I may be a little biased toward his new movie “Super” (directed by “Office” co-star Jenna Fischer’s ex-husband James Gunn). But even without my love for Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, I think this film looks hilarious.
Frank (Wilson) is distraught — his wife (Liv Tyler) has left him for a drug dealer named Jacques (Kevin Bacon). Obviously, the only way to get her back is to become a superhero, right? Frank makes his own costume, picks a wrench as his weapon and becomes the Crimson Bolt. A young woman and comic enthusiast, Libby (Ellen Page), turns into his sidekick Boltie.
The ragtag superhero bit has been recently covered by “Kick-Ass,” but I think there will still be interest in “Super.” After all, who can resist Wilson screaming at a baddie, “Don’t molest children!” and “Shut up, crime!”?
“Super” hits theaters on April 1.
