What would you do if you found out your best friend’s wife was having an affair? That’s the underlying question at the center of Ron Howard’s latest comedy, “The Dilemma.”
Best friends Ronny (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Kevin James) seem to have everything going for them. They work at an auto design firm and are in the midst of preparing a presentation for a huge project that could change their careers. They both have attractive significant others, Beth (Jennifer Connelly) and Geneva (Winona Ryder). But when Ronny catches Geneva with a younger, more attractive man (Channing Tatum), he doesn’t know how to react.
Should he tell Nick the truth? Should he confront Geneva and persuade her to talk to Nick? But the longer he keeps the secret, Ronny fears everything will come to an explosive head just in time for his and Nick’s potentially career-launching presentation.
I’m usually a fan of Howard’s work and I think Vaughn is a funny, likable guy, but the dilemma with this trailer is that it just doesn’t bring the laughs. Maybe the trailer isn’t cut well, but I just didn’t find it very funny. Screenwriter Allan Loeb has a few hits (“21”) and misses (“The Switch”) under his belt, and while I hope I’m wrong, the unoriginal trailer makes “The Dilemma” seem like the latter.
“The Dilemma” hits theaters Jan. 14.
UPDATE:
Due to the use of the word “gay” in the first version of the trailer (show above), Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the movie. Here is the new trailer:

I am so glad to see Wynona Ryder! But I agree with your assessment of the trailer – I’m not sure it’s funny enough. I’m not sure about Latifah’s dialogue, either. Pretty weird. We’ll see.
