We’ve seen countless stories about fearless cops who never hesitate to save the day, but what about the other cops they work with? What are they like? That’s exactly what director Adam McKay’s latest film, “The Other Guys,” seeks to answer.
Detectives Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) and Danson (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) are the prime examples of heroic cops. Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) are the guys at their desks when Highsmith and Danson return from an adventure to thunderous applause. Gamble and Hoitz idolize Highsmith and Danson and long to become tough cops like them. But when Gamble and Hoitz finally get their chance to shine, their heroics don’t come as easily as planned.
I’ve enjoyed McKay and Ferrell’s previous collaborations (“Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights,” “Step Brothers,” the “Funny or Die” site), so I expect “The Other Guys” to bring a similar brand of humor. The trailer looks pretty funny, and it features an outstanding cast. In addition to Ferrell, Wahlberg, Jackson and Johnson, the cast is rounded out by Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Steve Coogan.
Look for “The Other Guys” to arrive in theaters Aug. 6.
