Two Deleted Scenes From ‘Brüno’

— by SEAN GERSKI —

For my money, “Da Ali G Show” is one of the funniest shows in TV history. If you haven’t seen it, check out the two seasons on DVD. It really is worth your time.

When the first spin-off movie came out — “Ali G Indahouse” — I was pretty excited, but the movie did not live up to the TV series. The show’s basic appeal is watching real people (typically blowhards) react to the personas created by Sacha Baron Cohen, but the movie was completely fictitious and it just didn’t work.

The second spin-off movie — “Borat” — took the correct approach and was more evocative of the TV series. Unfortunately, it also took the Borat persona mainstream and all but ruined the character (if I never hear another Borat impression again, I will be quite alright with that). Aside from that, though, the movie is very funny.

The third character from the TV show, Brüno, was the least funny of the three (in my opinion), but he still was quite good — in small doses. His movie this summer was a letdown. Unfortunately, Cohn and co. went for shock value over humor and there weren’t enough laughs in the movie. To be certain, there were some really big laughs, just not enough of them.

With “Brüno” set to arrive on DVD and blu-ray on Nov. 17, here are two deleted scenes from the movie.

This scene, with LaToya Jackson, was removed from the film out of respect for the death of Michael Jackson, but it’s not that funny of a scene to begin with:

This scene, with Pete Rose, is much funnier:.

I agree with what you said about each movie. And the Pete Rose clip was pretty funny.
