In brightest day, in blackest night …
Things are certainly getting going over in New Orleans at the moment. The highly-anticipated “Green Lantern” movie starts filming this week and director Martin Campbell has reached out to New Zealand for his latest casting choices, as Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi have signed on to the upcoming superhero flick.
Waititi — who wrote, directed and starred in the excellent but little known “Eagle Vs. Shark” — and has directed a number of episodes of the brilliant “Flight of the Conchords” TV series, will be performing best buddy duties to Reynold’s Hal Jordan.
Morrison best known for his role as alien bounty hunter Jango Fett in the “Star Wars” prequels has a very important role. He will be playing Abin Sur, the Green Lantern of sector 2814 who crashes on earth and passes the fabled Green Lantern power ring onto Hal Jordan (played by Ryan Reynolds) so he can take up the mantle and defend the planet.
This film, like the Kenneth Brannagh-directed Thor, seems to have been filming for a while now. But it appears the big principal photography is just getting under way this week. I just want to see some production shots, teaser trailers. Anything! It was announced that Green Lantern will be going 3D. It still remains to be seen whether the film will be shot in 3D or be converted after filming, like the soon-to-be-released “Clash of the Titans.”
“Green Lantern” is due for release on June 17, 2011
