Middle school is a time most people probably want to forget, the time when awkwardness abounds as puberty sets in and trying to fit in becomes a top priority.
In “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” based on the bestselling book by Jeff Kinney, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) chronicles these awkward times in his journal during his first year of middle school.
The wisecracking student offers commentary on his overbearing parents (Rachel Harris and Steve Zahn), the torments of his older brother (Devon Bostick) and his quest for him and his offbeat, dorky friends to be accepted by the popular crowd.
I’ve never read the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books, but based on the trailer this movie looks pretty cute and funny. The target audience is clearly kids, but anyone who has ever felt like the dork in school can probably relate to Greg’s misadventures.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” opens April 2.
