There are many “Batman” incarnations in live-action movies, animated series and movies, and in the printed pages of comics and books. The list would be endless if we had to recount the history and adventures of the heroic character (but It’s Just Movies is trying with our series on “Batman”), but now, adding to all this history, is the subject for this article: “Batman: Under the Red Hood.”
“What is it?” you ask? It is this fan-boy’s dream come true.
“Batman: Under the Red Hood” is based on the 2005 Batman comics storyline in which Batman is pitted against the vigilante, Red Hood. Well, by the looks of the trailer below, we are in for a ride. When I first heard about this many months ago, I was very excited. But I could have never imagined this would be such a serious and committed movie — committed to the action, the plot, the score, and a great cast. I am impressed.
The trailer is action-packed. it has shooting, chases, fighting, explosions and all kinds of different characters doing their things. Should I mention the Joker is here? This plot is violent. It is perhaps the most violent story-telling for an animated Batman film yet. Red Hood is a vigilante, but he is merciless; he will kill bad guys in order to clean up Gotham City. How close to the actual comic will this story be? I guess we must wait to see.
The trailer score is also very exciting and “Dark Knight”-ish. I love the fast-paced, climactic-style music theme. It is fitting for a Batman story such as this.
Finally, the last thing I wanted to talk about is the great cast. Batman is voiced by Bruce Greenwood (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and “Star Trek”). Neil Patrick Harris (“Doogie Howser, M.D.” and a long list of other DC superhero TV shows) takes on the role of Nightwing. John DiMaggio is the Joker. There’s also Jensen Ackles (“Supernatural” and “My Bloody Valentine”) as Red Hood and, finally, Jason Isaacs (the “Harry Potter” series and recently, “Green Zone”) as Ra’s al Ghul.
This is a trailer to get excited about. Watch it! Then share your excitement by posting it on the comment section on the right side of this page! You will only have to wait until July 27 to watch “Batman: Under the Red Hood.”
