Before the trailer debuted this week, I only knew “The Tourist” as that movie Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were filming when all the tabloids started speculating about whether or not they would have an affair. But based on the first trailer, the movie certainly seems like more than just tabloid fodder.
Depp stars as Frank, an unassuming American tourist in Italy whose world is turned upside down when he meets the beautiful and mysterious Elise (Angelina Jolie) on a train.
What began as a relaxing vacation quickly escalates into a dangerous adventure when Frank is pursued by gangsters. The mob boss believes Frank is a criminal who stole from him, and he wants him dead.
Frank soon learns Elise meeting him on the train was no accident, and that he is now part of an elaborate plan that will undoubtedly change his life.
“The Tourist” doesn’t look like the most original story. Stories of femme fatales wreaking havoc on the lives of an everyman protagonist and tourists finding trouble abroad are plot devices that have been done time and time again. But overall it looks like a pretty entertaining ride, largely thanks to Depp’s charm.

Ive been hearing the hype about this movie for a while now, seeing shots of the two of them on the set and even though it looks like “SALT” and “Knight and Day” had a cinematic baby, Im actually looking forward to seeing this one!
