Puss in Boots — one of the most beloved characters in the “Shrek” universe — is getting his time to shine. Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek star in this animated spin-off of Dreamworks’ most-adored franchise.
In this new film, we see where Puss began his courageous tale before meeting up with Shrek and the rest of the gang. Along the way, he meets some zany characters, including the mastermind Humpty Dumpty (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) and the street-savvy Kitty (Hayek).
Fans can expect the same beautiful animation we know from the “Shrek” films while being taken on a whole new adventure.
“It’s not the typical spin off where it’s just the same world and just a different character that you are focusing on,” Hayek said in Cannes. “It really has its own space and style and feel and sensation. It’s different and I think that they have done an amazing job with it.”
When asked what it was like working together again after so many years, Antonio Banderas said: “We didn’t work together yet.”
“We’ve known each other for so long and we’re so connected that even though we’ve been doing it [the voiceovers] separately I can feel him in the room when I’m doing it and when you see it, it really works … you would never guess that we’ve been doing it apart.”
The duo promises that they will get to work together in the studio by the end of the film, though.
“Puss in Boots” is slated for released Nov. 4.

I feel like the limitations of this character became pretty obvious in the last two lame Shrek movies.
