It's Just Movies

The re-telling of classic stories is going strong right now and “Snow White and the Huntsman” — the upcoming movie starring Kristen Stewart — is one of several looking to ride the wave.

In this version of the story, the Huntsman and Snow White relationship will be a key to the plot of the movie. However, casting the key role of the Huntsman has proven to be a challenge.

Off the top of my head, I remember in the original story the Huntsman does not follow through on the orders of the evil queen to kill Snow White, instead he let’s her go. But then he is never heard from again. This version would have him sticking around, to mentor and protect her. It isn’t a stretch to imagine they will spin this into a “Twilight”-ish tale.

So you can imagine casting this role is a big deal.

Since the project’s announcement, two names were confirmed: Kristen Stewart as Snow White, and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. But the role of the Huntsman has changed various times.

At this moment the role is on the table for Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) to take. But at one time Viggo Mortensen was attached to the role, followed by Hugh Jackman. Joel Edgerton was named, too, and appears to still be in the running for the role.

Although “Thor” hasn’t even openly wide yet, it has received nothing but praise, and it looks to be a sizable hit. So, it makes sense to jump on the attractive star of the film (Chris Hemsworth), who is currently paired with Natalie Portman’s character in “Thor.”
