As the holiday season inches closer and closer, the more holiday movies we’re likely to hear about, such as “Everybody’s Fine.”
The film centers on a widower (Robert De Niro) who realizes his wife was the only connection he really had to his grown children (Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell).
When they all decline to visit him for the holidays, he sets out on a road trip to reconnect with them and discovers they haven’t been completely truthful with him about their lives.
I think this film could be hit or miss. This poster makes it looks like another tired, cheesy holiday comedy. But it does have a strong cast and could just as easily turn out to be a thoughtful dramedy about the meaning of family, albeit with a holiday twist.
“Everybody’s Fine” opens Dec. 4.

The trailer is one tough slog of sugary sweetness. I’ve heard strong buzz on this one, but not evidence to support it.
I do love me some Kate Beckinsale.
Robert De Niro. I wish that he still made good movies.
