Step ‘Back to the Future’ To Support Charity

— by ALEXA MILAN —

Crank up the DeLorean and head to the nearest computer. Because if you’re a “Back to the Future” fan and have loads of extra cash to spare, you might be able to snag a pair of limited edition Nike MAG shoes in the next couple of days.

Nike has introduced 1,500 replica pairs of the signature Nike sneaker from “Back to the Future 2” and began auctioning them off Sept. 8 on eBay as a fundraiser for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, an organization that has raised more than $250 million toward Parkinson’s research to date. All proceeds from the auction will go to the foundation. Fox was diagnosed with the disease in 1991.

According to the fundraiser Web site, “1,500 pairs of the most famous shoes never made will be auctioned to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Together, we’re going to help erase Parkinson’s disease from the space-time continuum.” The fundraiser already appears to be working wonders for the foundation — as of Sunday night, the lowest bids were at more than $3,000.

To promote the cause, Nike has produced a trailer for the shoes featuring Bill Hader, Kevin Durant and Doc Brown himself at Lone Pine Mall. Check out the trailer below, and learn more about the Nike MAG auction and the Michael J. Fox Foundation at www.back4thefuture.com.
