“Saturday Night Live” has experimented a few times with bringing re-occurring sketches to the big screen and has experienced varying levels of success with them. Their latest addition, “MacGruber” (based off sketches that parody “MacGyver”) stars Will Forte and always end in explosions.
I’ve only seen a handful of the “MacGruber” sketches on YouTube and absolutely no episodes of “MacGyver.” However, the clips below for the film “Macgruber” are funny. Mostly, it’s in the inappropriate way that catches you off guard, but the actors also bring in their own humor and pull everything off. It makes you wonder how many takes had to be shot so that the actors could say something like “every day’s a workout when you’ve got to carry around a 20-lb. python in your jeans” with a serious face.
The first clip shows MacGruber with wrestler Chris Jericho discussing the last time they had seen each other (one had various weapons in hand and the other was ripping out throats). In the second clip, MacGruber says he plans on getting together a group of “killer stoppers” and head butts Ryan Phillippe’s character, and the in the third clip, Forte and Phillippe have a back and forth. Each clip ends with a bad-ass MacGruber logo.
Overall, the clips are funny, but not appropriate if you’re in a public area without headphones on.
“MacGruber” will be out in theatres May 21 and stars Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillippe and Maya Rudolph.
