When I first heard about “Rise of the Guardians” — and being unfamiliar with the series of books written by William Joyce — I assumed the 3D animated picture was a sequel to “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole.” Of course, my assumption was incorrect.
Instead of an owl’s epic quest to free abducted owls from an evil army, “Rise of the Guardians” follows childhood heroes Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), Jack Frost (Chris Pine) and the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and their fight to protect the imagination of children everywhere, by thwarting the sinister Pitch the Nightmare King (Jude Law) plan to take over the world.
Produced by Guillermo Del Toro and helmed by Peter Ramsey, “Rise of the Guardians” looks very clever and fun – not to mention beautiful. I hope the full length feature has as much heart as the trailer conveys. I have a feeling I won’t be disappointed.
“Rise of the Guardians” opens Nov. 21.

When I first heard the title, I thought it was a sequel to the owls movie, too.
