Jet Li stars as General Pang in this epic war film (previously known as “The Blood Brothers”). I have to say watching Jet Li is fun and yet almost every movie he comes out with has terrible reviews. I am definitely looking forward to watching him in “The Expendables,” which will by all means be a fantastic action flick.
This film was released in China over two years ago, winning many awards at places such as the Hong Kong Film Awards. I can see why it has, with a great-looking trailer showcasing its fantastic epic battles.
I absolutely love watching great battle scenes (such as “Troy” or “King Arthur”) and this one doesn’t seem to disappoint in that aspect.
The film is set in the 1860s, during the Taiping Rebellion in the late Qing Dynasty in China. The story, based on an unresolved crime in 1870, tells of three sworn brothers who are forced to turn against one another due to the harsh realities of war and political intrigue. Mostly, the film revolves around the last decades of the Qing dynasty, in particular the years of the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864) that cost the lives of 70 million people.
Overall, Peter Chan looks to have captured the epic film he was looking for and I have to say I am really looking forward to seeing this film when it gets a limited release April 2, 2010.
