Trailer Talk: ‘Family Guy Presents: Something, Something, Something Dark Side’

— by RACHEL COYNE —

After the success of their “Star Wars” parody, “Blue Harvest,” and never being one to shy away from skewing beloved pop culture mainstays, the creative minds behind “Family Guy” are now taking on “The Empire Strikes Back.” Victory is, undoubtedly, theirs.

As in “Blue Harvest,” the “Family Guy” characters assume the roles of the “Star Wars” crew, including Chris as Luke Skywalker, Peter as Han Solo, Stewie as a pint-sized Darth Vader, and the creepy pedophile neighbor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. And as always with “Family Guy,” plenty of off-color jokes, random cutaways, and spontaneous musical numbers will most likely abound (and the Meg-hate is in full force, too, as it looks like she doesn’t even get a role in this parody).

“Something, Something, Something Dark Side” will be available on DVD Dec. 22 and will air on TV some time in 2010 (May 16 if you choose to believe imdb.com). And now it’s probably just a matter of time before the “Return of the Jedi” parody gets green lit. Maybe Meg could be an Ewok in that one.

I just don’t find The Family Guy very funny. I’ve tried, but it’s just not funny.

This was the best they could show in the trailer? I barely laughed.
