It’s not unknown that I have a dislike of Mark Millar. I wish to clarify my position. I have a problem with Mark Millar — The Ego. The guy who thinks before him every knee should bend. I don’t have a problem with Mark Millar — the comic-book writer. The guy who’s turned out a plethora of great works for awhile now.
The teaser trailer for his latest comic-turned-movie has been released. And what a trailer! “Kick-Ass” is the story of New York City high school student Dave Lizewski, who takes the inspiration from the comic books he reads to become a real life superhero. Putting together a mask and costume, he begins training himself to take on the bad guys roaming New York.
If you haven’t read the source material (written by Millar), trust me when I say this isn’t some “Spider-Man”-like origin story. As is glanced at in the trailer, the violence is real and the consequences are real.
What’s seems apparent is they have a good balance of humour and visceral action in the film. You have a morbidly funny opening scene. Then it moves to setting up the characters and we get our first in action shots of Kick-Ass himself (Aaron Johnson), Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz), Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
Director Matthew Vaughan seems to have a hit on his hands. The selling point will be how detailed and intense the violence is, and then whether the general movie-going public will handle it. “Watchmen’s” commercial failure springs to mind as a warning to “Kick-Ass.”
But personally, I can’t wait to see this flick and this may seem like a cliché but this film is going to kick ass!
“Kick-Ass” is due for release on April 16, 2010.

That trailer is promising.
I like it.
I am absolutely seeing this movie. Congratulations to them for making a movie called Kick-Ass, too. I agree about the violence. It looks surprisingly effective.
I really liked this trailer it is much better than I thought it would be.
My psych-age continues…
Not sure about this one.
That looks really good.
