Trailer Talk: ‘Sex and the City 2’ (Version Two)

— by KATHLEEN COLLINS —

When I saw the trailer for the first “Sex and the City” movie, I was really excited to see my favorite four girls on the big screen. I have been a fan of the show for years. I love the show and even planned a girls’ night when the first movie came out. After watching the trailer for the second movie, I’m left with worry. It really doesn’t look as good as the first movie and I don’t want to not like “Sex and the City.”

In this trailer, the girls leave New York for a girls’ week in Abu Dhabi. Before she leaves, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) mentions her two-year marriage with Big (Chris Noth) has gone a little cold. They’re in a little rut, it seems. While in Abu Dhabi, Carrie runs into Aiden (John Corbett) of all people. He gives her a big hug. Does it mean something that she ran into Aiden in Abu Dhabi? Would she jeopardize her 12 years with Big for Aiden, the man on whom she cheated with Big? We all know Carrie also loved Aiden, but come on, he’s not Big and never will be. No one ever was.

One of the things I love about “Sex and the City” is the fabulous scenes in New York. Watching the girls glam up in New York City is something fans look forward to. Why make the four main characters leave the city we all love watching them in? How can you take the girls from “Sex and the City” out of the City?

I hate to write anything negative about one of my all time favorite shows, but based on this trailer, I am really hoping there are some surprises that will bring this plot together. I’ll still see it of course, but I’m hoping it has the same heart “Sex and the City” had.

    It looks terrible.

I absolutely hated the first one and only saw it on DVD, thankfully. I think I’ll skip the “premiere” of the second one as well.
