Trailer Talk: ‘Trick ‘r Treat’

Michael Dougherty’s “Trick ‘r Treat” has taken a remarkably long time to get to a place where viewers can see it.

This entry from Wikipedia says it all: It was written and directed by Michael Dougherty and based on his short film ‘Season’s Greetings.’ Originally slated for an Oct. 5, 2007, release, it was announced in September 2007 that the film had been pushed back. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are slated to release the film on Oct. 6, 2009.

The strange thing is that the $12 million movie has received very solid buzz practically from the get-go.

The movie already has taken home the Audience Choice Award at the 2008 Los Angeles Screamfest and the Silver Audience Award at the 2009 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

In addition, “Trick ‘r Treat” features a cast that includes Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Leslie Bibb and Dylan Baker. Oh, and it also has “Sam,” a pint-sized trick-or-treater (shown above). “Sam,” who appears in the movie’s five Halloween-related stories, has an iconic look — the kind that spawns sequels for horror movies.

In any case, it’s nice to see that mainstream audiences will finally get the chance to see the movie. The trailer is certainly promising.

This trailer is the first horror film I’ve seen in years that looks like it may actually be what it’s intended to be, SCARY! It’s shame this hasn’t been released while crappy Saw films still are. This is the perfect Halloween film!
