Whip It” is the story of a rebellious Texas teen (Ellen Page) who leaves her beauty pageant dreams behind to join a roller derby team. She is on a journey of discovery and learns along the way that, as first time director Drew Barrymore puts it, “you can be your own hero” and “girls can do it all.”
Joining Page are co-stars Zoe Bell, Marcia Gay Harden, Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, Jimmy Fallon, Daniel Stern and Kristen Wiig.
The story is based on the novel “Derby Girl” by Shauna Cross, who also wrote the screenplay.
The trailer had me laughing and rocking in my seat to the music. And the casting looks perfect: from the misfit blue-haired teen (Page) to the disapproving mother (Harden) to the roller derby women (Barrymore, Wiig, Lewis and more). This looks like a hilarious movie.
“Whip It” is set to be released in theaters Oct. 9.
This could be fun. Roller Derby seems to be making a comeback.
Maybe, maybe not. I love Kristen Wiig, though.
This looks like a really fun movie. I think I will take my daughter to see it with me.
