‘Tron 3’ Details Revealed

— by LAUDELYS MIRANDA —

“Tron: Legacy” was arguably the most anticipated film of 2010 at the time of its release in December. With a budget of $170 million, it went on to make a little over twice as much worldwide at the box office with totals reaching the $400 million.

It may not have reached “Avatar” or “The Dark Knight” status, but Disney could not ignore the magnitude of its success on a franchise that had seemed dead and forgotten for almost three decades.

Talks of a sequel were nearly inevitable. And now, Joseph Kosinski, the director of “Tron: Legacy,” is talking plot for the next sequel.

Rumored to be called “Tron: The Next Day,” the film will pick up where “Legacy” left off, Kosinski revealed in an interview with Assignment X:

I think we will pick with where “TRON: LEGACY” left off with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s that relationship between the two of them that’s the next step.

According to Assignment X, Kosinski said the film will continue the adventures of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund).

And another tidbit released was the incorporation of Ed Dillinger’s son, who had a small cameo in “Tron: Legacy” and was played by Cillian Murphy:

Dillinger was a really important part of the first film and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son in the new movie. That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn’t want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film.

Ed Dillinger was one of the main villains of the original film and his son has gone on to become a board member and programmer of ENCOM OS 12, formerly known as Flynn OS. The film hit the beat of a possible rivalry between Sam and Ed Jr.

Considering that Cillian Murphy plays the villain with such poise, it’ll be interesting to see how he is incorporated in this new film and if he does in fact follow in his father’s footsteps.

I’m thinking yes.

“Tron 3” is still in the pre-production stages.

I loved the visuals and score of TRON: Legacy and even though the original TRON was before my time I grew up watching it. The one thing lacking was a strong fluid storyline, so if they can pump up the story instead of the volume then I have no doubt the next film could be awesome!
