Two Clips from ‘You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger’

— by AMANDA KOEHLER —

What’s a Woody Allen movie without a little complicated romance? His newest film, “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” focuses on two married couples and their complex relationships.

Alfie (Anthony Hopkins) leaves his wife of 40 years, Helena (Gemma Jones) for a much younger actress, while their daughter Sally (Naomi Watts) develops a crush on her art gallery owner boss (Antonio Banderas). Her novelist husband Roy (Josh Brolin) has a thing for neighbor engaged Dia (“Slumdog Millionaire’s” Freida Pinto).

Distraught after her husband leaves her, Helena starts seeing a fortune teller, who tells Helena she will soon meet a “tall, dark stranger.” Her son-in-law scoffs and says she’ll meet the same tall, dark stranger everyone eventually meets — death. But soon enough, Helena meets an occult bookstore owner who needs permission from his dead wife to marry Helena.

These relationships and characters seem messy but worth examining. Audiences can “meet a tall, dark stranger” on Sept. 22.

Woody Allen may be a bit creepy, but he has produced some great original movies. I do love Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins. The fact that the first clip is about Prostitution doesn’t surprise me. Should be an interesting movie for sure.
