Trailer Talk: ‘Let Me In’

— by AMANDA KOEHLER —

Sick of vampire movies yet? Hopefully not, because here comes another one! “Let Me In” is a remake of the 2008 Swedish film “Let the Right One In.” In the film, Chloe Grace Moretz plays Abby, the new neighbor to Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The trailer shows Owen gets bullied at school, and Abby offers to help him. “You’re a girl,” Owen points out. “I’m a lot stronger than you think,” Abby replies. And of course she’s right. Hello! Have you even seen Kick-Ass?

But it turns out that Abby isn’t a superhero, but, you guess it, a vampire. She even tells Owen she needs blood to live. A body is found, and the victim is drained of blood. A policeman gets very interested in Abby and questions Owen about her while also trying to hunt her down.

The trailer makes “Let Me In” look like a pure horror movie, but something tells me that, at its roots, it’s a story about protection and the friendship between two children, one who just happens to be a supernatural creature.

“Let Me In” opens in theaters on Oct. 1.
