Bond is Back …

— by SHERICE ANTOINETTE —

.. and so is Daniel Craig as the dashing and dangerous MI6 agent.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer announced a Nov. 9, 2012, release date for the next Bond film, known only as “Bond 23” at this point. Helming the feature will be Sam Mendes, who was attached to project before MGM’s financial problems blocked filming.

Coincidentally, 2012 marks the 50-year anniversary of the Bond franchise. Dr. No, starring Sean Connery, premiered in London on Oct. 5, 1962. No word on whether or not Rachel Weisz will be on board as the villain. Rumors circulated back in March 2010 of her involvement.

Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade — who penned “Casino Royal” and “Quantum of Solace” — will collaborate with John Logan (“Red”) on this venture. Due to Daniel Craig’s busy schedule (he’s currently filming David Fincher’s take on “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” trilogy, and in July he’ll have to promote Jon Favreau’s “Cowboys and Aliens”) production for “Bond 23” won’t begin until late this year.

I don’t mind the two year wait. It’s certainly better than the alternative, which was never.
