We all know the story of “Romeo and Juliet.” Billy Shakespeare’s gem has been revisited, rehashed and reheated in many films … but never in a CGI-animated movie based on garden gnomes. That is, until now.
Gnomeo (voiced by James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt) are gnomes from rival gardens. The blue and red gnomes are not exactly neighborly. But when the two garden fixtures meet, it’s true, inanimate love… and Juliet doesn’t care what her father, Lord Redbrick (Michael Caine), thinks.
The concept and spin on “R&J” is pretty cute and original, and it seems like this movie might have enough jokes to keep adults entertained as well. Let’s just hope the film doesn’t end like the original play. Suicide and kids movies don’t mix.
Featuring music from Sir Elton John (who also co-produced the film), “Gnomeo and Juliet” also features garden variety voices of Ozzy Osbourne, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen, Hulk Hogan and Dolly Parton. http://itsjustmovies.com/14004
