Jason Momoa is not Arnold. There I said it.
Yes, I am very aware Momoa’s look is similar to Robert E Howard’s Conan. That in itself is pretty cool. However, even though Momoa has the physical attributes of the famous barbarian, in the trailer, he doesn’t exactly “bring it.”
Of course, only so much can be revealed in a minute. But what really draws my attention is the bad production value of this teaser itself. Are we to assume the film will be just as mediocre? Were holographic characters coming out of the fog the best they could do? In general, the overall impression of the trailer makes me think “Conan the Barbarian” should go straight to DVD (not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with that — I’ve found a few gems at Blockbuster).
Also starring in this reboot are Ron Perlman and Rose McGowan. Marcus Nispel, who helmed the surprisingly good “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remake, directed “Conan the Barbarian,” which opens in theaters Aug. 19. Here’s hoping the film is 100x better than the teaser.
After you watch it, tell me what you think about the trailer. Am I being too hard on what Lionsgate released? Sound off to the right with your opinion.

Hmm. Well, the trailer doesn’t looks as bad as some of the crap I’ve seen slated for summer. And frankly, the Conan with Arnold was a low budget poorly made mess in the first place, so this could only be a step up. The only thing that made Arnold believable in that role were his muscles because God knows the guy’s acting was at an all-time low. Yes, this trailer sucks. They could have put together some better action scenes of something. That being said, I’ve seen Momoa in this type of role, and he’s good. So, I’ll give the movie a chance despite the crappy trailer, and despite the casting of Rose McGowan.
