One minute you can be on top of the world and the next you can be hitting rock bottom — as millionaire infomercial guru Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) soon finds out.
When one of Axle’s inventions has a design flaw that accidentally chops off the fingers of thousands of customers, he winds up serving eight years in prison. When he is released, Axle is ready to take up his life and rebuild his empire and his name with a new innovation.
However, Axle’s ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) has spent all of his money and moved into his house with her new husband (Craig Robinson). He finds a part-time job as a janitor, and is forced to move in with his daughter (Camilla Belle) and her over-protective roommates.
Despite all the setbacks, Axle is determined to launch his newest gadget and rebuild his infomercial empire. But things have changed radically in the last decade and Axle finds himself out of the loop with current technology. Plus, he has lost the self-confidence that made him king of the infomercials in the past. Axle soon realizes before he can be successful with his new idea, he must first reinvent himself.
Also starring Heather Graham, John Stamos, Michael Rosenbaum and Johnny Knoxville, “Father of Invention” will arrive in theaters Oct. 14.
