Trailer Talk: ‘Going the Distance’

— by ALLISON HIGGINBOTHAM —

“Fever Pitch” is a film loosely adapted from the Nick Hornby novel of the same name about a man who is really obsessed with a sports team. This rom-com stars the ever charming Drew Barrymore and … oops, sorry guys. I got my Drew Barrymore rom-coms confused. The trailer below is for her latest film, “Going the Distance.” To be fair they both sound like sports phrases.

“Going the Distance” is about two people who meet and have a relationship for six weeks until one of them, Erin (Barrymore), has to leave and live on the other side of the United States. Garrett (Justin Long), however, is determined to be with Erin even if it is in a long distance relationship way.

What I liked most about this trailer is that it’s realistic. The lines aren’t terribly witty and the plot isn’t too over the top (except the dad in the next room part). While it may be clichéd, there’s the hope for a different ending with some emotion thrown in along the way. However, if the movie isn’t more than mild humor and the same old shtick then that would be disappointing.

Unfortunately buzz for this film has been tainted by Barrymore and Long’s former relationship. You can bet that the rag magazines and websites and interviews are going to run with that angle when promoting the movie. Let’s hope that “Going the Distance” is good enough to become the focal part instead of the actors’ pasts.

“Going the Distance” will be in theatres Aug. 27. It stars Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Christina Applegate, Ron Livingston and Jim Gaffigan.

This looks kind of cute! Plus I just love Charlie Day. So pumped to see him getting some movie work in addition to his “It’s Always Sunny” role!

I actually liked this trailer, as it didn’t seem as contrived and moronic as most new rom-coms. Plus Charlie Day, Jason Sudekis, and Jim Gaffigan? Yes please! Also, I also think dying from too much tortellini sounds like a decent way to go.

I actually laughed twice during the trailer. That’s a good start …

Well, Ivebeen pretty sick of the typical Rom/Com’s that just are typical and boring. This seems to be funny and quirky. The part that made me laugh the most was the tannning scene “Tastes Like Poison!” LOL
